This week, our students have been enjoying a range of hands-on festive learning activities, combining creativity, independence, and the development of important life skills, all while embracing the excitement of the season.

From the classroom to the kitchen, there has been a wonderful atmosphere of focus, teamwork, and festive cheer as students took part in activities designed to support learning in a meaningful and engaging way.

Festive baking fun

One of the highlights of the week was making stained glass biscuits, which were then turned into beautiful festive baubles. Students followed step-by-step instructions, measured ingredients carefully, and worked safely with kitchen equipment under supervision.

This activity supported the development of:

  • Independence and confidence

  • Fine motor skills

  • Listening and following instructions

  • Understanding safety in a kitchen environment

Most importantly, it gave students the chance to experience the pride and enjoyment that comes from creating something themselves, all while having plenty of seasonal fun.

Creating our 2026 calendars

Alongside the baking, students have also been working on their 2026 calendars, each designed around trees representing the four seasons. This creative project encouraged students to think about the passage of time, changes throughout the year, and how nature transforms from season to season.

Through this activity, students developed:

  • Communication and expressive skills

  • Organisation and sequencing

  • Understanding of time and seasons

  • Opportunities for personal choice and creativity

Each calendar is unique, reflecting individual ideas, preferences, and artistic styles, and the finished results are something the students can be truly proud of.

Learning through celebration

These festive activities are a great example of how learning can be both purposeful and enjoyable. By combining practical skills with creativity and seasonal themes, students were able to engage fully, build confidence, and strengthen skills that will support them both in and beyond the classroom.

It has been a joy to see students working so enthusiastically, supporting one another, and celebrating their achievements together. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the thoughtful work they have produced.

Festive learning like this helps to make the end of term feel special while continuing to support meaningful progress, and it has certainly brought plenty of smiles along the way. 🎅✨
