Today, Gorgi, Adele, Riecko and Janice had the pleasure of presenting at York St John University’s student teacher SEND conference, where they shared insight into the work we do to support children and young people with additional needs. The session focused on our school’s highly individualised approach to meeting sensory and social, emotional and mental health needs, highlighting how carefully tailored strategies can make a meaningful difference to engagement, wellbeing and learning outcomes.
The team also explored the vital role of early identification in effective SEND practice. Students were encouraged to consider how noticing small changes, listening closely to pupils and working collaboratively with families and professionals can help ensure the right support is in place as early as possible. Real examples from our setting helped to bring this to life and demonstrated how inclusive, responsive practice supports every child to feel safe, understood and ready to learn.
It was a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the development of future teachers, and we were proud to share our experiences and answer thoughtful questions from students who are preparing to begin their careers in education. We would like to thank York St John University for the warm welcome and for hosting such an inspiring event focused on inclusive practice and positive outcomes for all learners.
