A Great Start to History at Lord Gowthorpe's
History has got off to a fantastic start this term, with pupils beginning to explore what history is, why it matters, and how historians investigate the past.
During their first week, students learned about the foundations of historical study, discussing important historical events and famous figures to assess their existing knowledge before beginning the subject in more depth.
They were introduced to the "5 Ws" of history, asking questions such as Who? What? Where? When? and Why?, helping them understand how historians gather and interpret evidence. Pupils also explored the concept of chronology, learning how to place events in the correct order to better understand how history unfolds over time.
As part of the lesson, pupils worked together to organise a range of historical events into chronological order, demonstrating excellent teamwork and developing their understanding of timelines.
One pupil took a particular interest in tornadoes, independently researching the history of significant tornado events before placing them into chronological order. It was wonderful to see them apply the same historical skills to a topic that genuinely interested them.
It has been a brilliant first week of History, with pupils showing enthusiasm, curiosity and excellent engagement. We are looking forward to seeing their historical knowledge continue to grow throughout the year.
