This week in our Engage Media session, pupils took their first steps into the world of pixel art and game design using Piskel, a professional sprite creation tool.

Working one pixel at a time, pupils designed their own unique 2D gaming sprites while developing creativity, attention to detail and digital design skills. Their fantastic creations included a firing laser, a bouncing ball, an amoeba, Tung Tung Sahur, a character sprite, a scene inspired by The Backrooms, and several original game assets.

Creating pixel art requires patience, planning and precision, with pupils carefully choosing colours and placing individual pixels to bring their ideas to life.

Next week the project becomes even more exciting as pupils begin animating their sprites, learning how to create movement frame by frame just like classic retro video games.

We can't wait to see their creations come to life!
