This week in Science, students have been learning about mixtures, solutions and separation techniques through a range of exciting practical activities.
Students investigated how temperature affects solubility, exploring how substances dissolve more easily as particles gain energy and move more quickly. It was fantastic to see learners making predictions, observing changes carefully and linking their results back to particle theory.
One of the highlights of the week was a creative challenge where students designed their own distillation devices, imagining how they could produce clean water if stranded on a desert island. This activity encouraged students to apply their scientific knowledge to a real-world survival scenario while developing problem-solving and design skills.
Students also explored how to separate salt from rock salt using the techniques of filtration and evaporation. After dissolving the salt and filtering out the insoluble rock particles, learners carefully prepared evaporation basins and left the filtrate over the weekend. Everyone is now looking forward to checking the results on Monday to see the salt crystals left behind.
It has been another fantastic week of hands-on science, with students showing great curiosity, creativity and scientific thinking throughout. 🔬
