This week, our students made the most of another week of beautiful weather as they continued developing practical skills during their time at the farm.

Working alongside staff, students took part in a range of meaningful equestrian activities, including cleaning and inspecting reins and tack to ensure equipment remained safe and ready for use. They also worked together to prepare and repaint horse jumps, learning the importance of maintaining equipment while taking pride in improving the facilities.

As always, caring for the horses remained a highlight of the week. Students spent time grooming, observing and interacting with the horses, developing confidence, responsibility and a deeper understanding of animal welfare through calm, positive experiences.

Our learning extended beyond the horses too. A young fledgling robin became an unexpected visitor to the yard, providing a wonderful opportunity to observe local wildlife up close. Students watched its behaviour from a respectful distance and discussed how young birds learn to survive after leaving the nest, linking their observations to the natural world around them.

These practical sessions continue to build far more than equestrian knowledge. Students develop teamwork, communication, patience, responsibility and confidence through real-life experiences in a supportive environment. Every task, whether caring for animals, maintaining equipment or observing wildlife, provides valuable opportunities for learning that cannot be replicated in a traditional classroom.
