At Lord Gowthorpe’s, we believe that some of the most valuable learning takes place beyond the classroom. This week, our pupils enjoyed a memorable visit to the Madhyamaka Centre, where they had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Buddhism through a calm, immersive and thought-provoking experience.
The visit began with a guided tour of the beautiful grounds, giving pupils the chance to appreciate the peaceful surroundings and learn more about the centre’s purpose. Walking through the tranquil gardens encouraged students to slow down, observe their environment and enjoy time outdoors in a reflective setting.
During the visit, pupils took part in a guided meditation session, where they explored mindfulness techniques designed to promote relaxation, focus and emotional wellbeing. For many, this was their first experience of meditation, providing a valuable opportunity to practise calming strategies that can be used in everyday life.
Students also enjoyed an engaging talk about Buddhism, learning about the beliefs, values and practices of the Buddhist faith. They explored concepts such as compassion, kindness and mindfulness, while asking thoughtful questions and developing a greater understanding of different cultures and world views.
The visit provided an excellent opportunity to enrich our curriculum through first-hand experience. By combining learning with reflection, discussion and exploration, pupils were able to make meaningful connections between classroom learning and the wider world.
We would like to thank everyone at the Madhyamaka Centre for their warm welcome and for providing such an inspiring and memorable experience for our students.
