🔬 Science: Forces, Friction and Survival Challenges

This week in KS3 science, students explored distance-time graphs and learned how they can be used to represent movement. Learners created and interpreted their own distance-time graphs based on a 25-metre journey around the school, varying their speed at different points along the route to see how this affected the shape of their graph.


Students also investigated friction by testing how easily a weighted cage could be dragged across different surfaces. Through practical experimentation, they discovered that foam created the greatest amount of friction and discussed how surface texture affects movement.


In iGCSE Biology, we launched our new project-based assessment. Students have been applying their knowledge of balanced diets, key nutrients, digestion and absorption to design a survival food kit for an individual stranded in an extreme environment. Learners carefully considered the specific needs of their chosen person and used biological evidence to justify their food selections.


It has been fantastic to see students applying their scientific knowledge to real-world scenarios, and we are looking forward to seeing their completed survival kits next week.
