This week in KS3 Science, students investigated the relationship between force and extension by carrying out practical experiments using springs and weights. Pupils carefully measured how much a spring stretched as different amounts of force were applied, helping them understand the link between force and extension.
We also began our new topic on speed. Students tested how quickly they could travel a set distance using different methods of movement, including walking, hopping and running. By measuring the time taken and comparing results, pupils explored how speed can vary depending on the activity.
In iGCSE Science, students focused on digestion and nutrition. We explored the adaptations of the small intestine and how its structure increases surface area to maximise the absorption of nutrients.
Pupils also investigated balanced diets and the importance of different nutrients for maintaining good health. Through interactive activities, including a game of “Hot Corners”, students categorised food sources into nutrient groups and matched deficiency diseases to their symptoms and the vitamin or mineral that was lacking.
It has been another fantastic week of practical learning, investigation and discussion, with students developing both their scientific knowledge and their confidence in applying it to real-world situations.
