There was a delicious smell coming from the kitchen on Friday as Group 2 got stuck into their SETPD Making Baked Goods module!

This week, students made their own batches of chocolate chip cookies, developing a range of practical skills along the way. They worked on carefully following a recipe, measuring ingredients accurately and using different pieces of baking equipment safely and correctly.

Each student independently made their own batch of cookies and had the chance to personalise their creations with different toppings and additions, including extra chocolate and fudge. The results certainly looked worth the effort!

Lord Gowthorpe’s Kitchen Nightmares! 😱

Once the baking was complete, it was time for something a little different.

Students were introduced to “Lord Gowthorpe’s Kitchen Nightmares”, where they had to identify all the hazards hiding within a very badly run kitchen!

We were absolutely mortified at the state of it! 😂 From spotting potential accidents to thinking about hygiene and safe working practices, the activity gave students a fun way to explore exactly how NOT to run a kitchen.

The baking module is always a popular one with our students. It provides plenty of opportunities to develop independence, practical life skills, measuring and following instructions.

Of course, there is one other rather important benefit...

You get to eat the results at the end! 🍪😋
