Our learners have been working incredibly hard in English this week, taking part in a range of activities designed to develop their reading, writing and analytical skills across all areas of the curriculum.
In our iGCSE English classes, students have been focusing on how writers create effects and influence their audience. Using An Inspector Calls as their core text, learners explored the use of emotive language and how it shapes meaning and engages the reader. A particular highlight of the week was seeing students bring the play to life through drama activities, acting out key scenes and exploring character emotions and intentions in a practical and engaging way. This approach not only deepened their understanding of the text, but also helped build confidence in expressing ideas and interpretations.
Our Functional Skills English classes have been developing essential reading techniques, with a focus on skimming and scanning. Through a series of timed activities using both fiction and non-fiction texts, learners practised identifying key information quickly and effectively. These skills are vital for reading with purpose and will support students across all subjects, as well as in real-life situations.
During tutoring sessions, learners have been building on their understanding of emotive language and applying it to their own creative writing. Students began crafting their own stories, using challenging weather conditions as a starting point to inspire atmosphere and tension. It has been fantastic to see the creativity on display, with learners experimenting with language to engage their readers and bring their ideas to life.
Across all lessons, it has been wonderful to see learners engaging so positively with English, developing their skills in reading, writing and drama while growing in confidence and creativity.
