🍂 A Brilliant Start to Autumn Term in Maths! ➕➖📏
Our students have made a fantastic start to the autumn term in Maths, getting stuck into plenty of practical, hands-on activities designed to build confidence and fluency with numbers.
This term, students have been developing their understanding of place value, including comparing positive and negative numbers, as well as ordering decimals and fractions. Rather than simply working through questions on paper, pupils have been encouraged to explore the numbers practically, discuss their choices and apply their skills to solve a range of problems.
The activities have also helped students understand why these maths skills are useful outside the classroom. Comparing positive and negative numbers can help us understand changes in temperature or money going in and out of a bank account, while decimals and fractions appear everywhere from prices and measurements to recipes.
Students also put this into practice with a temperature activity, comparing different temperatures and exploring how values above and below zero relate to one another.
Building strong number fluency gives our pupils the foundations they need to approach more complex problems with greater confidence. It has been great to see students thinking carefully, working practically and recognising how the maths they learn in school connects with everyday life.
A brilliant start to the term, with lots more to come! 🍂📚➗
