Pumpkin Carving & Escape the Paddock: Halloween Fun at Lord Gowthorpe’s
Pumpkins, puzzles and plenty of Halloween fun! Pupils at Lord Gowthorpe’s got creative with pumpkin carving before taking on Escape the Paddock, a Halloween edition of an escape room challenge.
With pumpkins to transform and clues to gather, there was plenty to get stuck into. The activities brought together creativity and problem-solving, with pupils working alongside one another to crack the code.
Pumpkin carving with character
Our pumpkin carving session gave pupils the chance to turn their ideas into some wonderfully expressive creations. From marking out designs to cutting out features, each stage called for concentration and a little patience.
The finished pumpkins had plenty of personality. Round eyes, open mouths and an impressively long nose made for a collection that was as funny as it was spooky. The surprised-looking pumpkin certainly deserves a place in our Halloween photo gallery!

Escape the Paddock: Halloween edition
Next came Escape the Paddock, our Halloween-themed escape room challenge. Pupils worked together to gather clues and crack the code, taking their puzzle sheets and clipboards outdoors as they searched for answers.
The challenge called for careful reading, close observation and plenty of discussion. Gathering the clues was only part of the task: pupils also had to make sense of what they had found and work out how it fitted together.
Our photographs capture some of that detective work, from checking a puzzle beside the slide to studying the Halloween code-breaking sheet. Sharing ideas and comparing answers were all part of the fun.
Creativity, teamwork and a lot of fun
Across both activities, there were opportunities to practise useful skills in a playful setting. Pumpkin carving encouraged pupils to plan a design and concentrate on the details, while Escape the Paddock gave them a shared problem to tackle.
Most of all, it was a chance to enjoy getting creative and working together. Well done to everyone who joined in with the carving and clue-solving — a brilliant combination of Halloween imagination and teamwork!
